Residential-security can be tackled in different ways as you can see further down this page. Residential-security is a subject quite hot both with worried homeowners and with professionals whose business is to cater to the needs of those looking for surveillance solutions by providing advice and hardware or by supplying monitoring and helpful services. We recently reviewed some of the relevant discussions on Residential-security exchanged among trade people and learned something on the anxiety of the public and some of the messages that the commercial outlets believe would be helpful if accepted by their customers. We are summarizing here these views for our readers. The popular opinion of suppliers is that there is an increasing number of homeowners who install for Residential-security the traditional multi-channel Digital Video Recorder (DVR) (connected to a number of video cameras) mainly for the following uses. To monitor their property, to follow the well being of their next of kin, or to look after their elderly parents. Furthermore the same equipment is used where there is concern of vandalism, burglary or other crimes against property. With managed and monitored Residential-security services the most common of customers' concerns is the issue of privacy because a monitoring professional is expected to look in the client's home without anyone knowing. One of the proposed ways to soothe customer's privacy anxiety is to operate each Residential-security camera through its own motion sensor, (see also further down this page) which is on when the system is armed, to make sure that views are taken only when necessary. A doubt is expressed regarding IP Cameras that may be left on continuously (although in principle they too could be operated by motion sensors). If signal transmission is not encoded properly, it may be difficult to convince customers that their privacy is guaranteed. High price may be a hindrance to a larger diffusion of Residential-security video systems, although there is a consensus that a typical surveillance system complete and installed should not cost more than $ 2,000. However, if a video monitoring service subscription was selected, one has to take into account monthly recurring fees, similar to those of an alarm driven monitoring system that Customers may already be accustomed to. It is reported that customers having Residential-security video solutions installed are usually quite satisfied with the capability it provides. It is affirmed that such persons would not move to a new location devoid of a similar facility. A comment was voiced that those newly exposed to their own DVR systems will start reviewing their records a few times a day. After some time the frequency will drop to only a few times a month. That is why it is felt that a Residential-security home surveillance system operated by motion sensors is much more effective in providing only useful information and therefore has the potential of being preferred by discerning users who may be more attentive to the use of their time. On the other hand a monitored Residential-security service without dedicated DVR, would only provide to the customer records of the alarm and of the ten seconds video it triggered, which may be judged a quite practical and acceptable service. This requires that each sensor be provided with its own camera, which is a current trend. Alternatively this may be described as each camera being operated by its own motion sensor. This type of monitored service, with recorded video footage kept for customer's review, seems to be spreading and growing. Suppliers seem to feel that complex integrated solutions that involve adoption of devices from various manufacturers, risks to be perceived by customers as information overload, likely to scare and keep them from deciding confidently. This is not the case with a single Residential-security device that provides video of what caused the alarm, because this simple system, also called intelligent video, is easy to explain and to understand.
