Mini-camera is a digital surveillance camera whose dimensions are reduced to the maximum to allow its use in minimum space. Some are quoted to be only a little larger than a match box and of course the technology has already compressed the camera to the size of a cellular phone, which is not usually intended for surveillance.

The Mini camera is generally suitable for indoor use but some models may be mounted also outdoor. Inexpensive, although possibly somewhat limited in definition and resolution, depending on the specific hardware used (sensor, lens etc.), it may have all the major features expected from a regular surveillance camera. The following is possibly one of the best examples. Click on Mini Camera. If the Mini-camera has to take pictures in total darkness it may be provided with a few infra red (IR) illuminators, included in the camera casing. The illumination will be brighter for deeper fields of view the more bulbs are provided. On this subject see Infrared Illuminators. If the Mini-camera does not include sources of invisible light (infrared), an external source of IR illuminating units may be needed. Often they are called pinhole cameras as their lens is also quite small. A Mini-camera is called a Board Camera if it is built on the electronic board with or without a case. Either an original case or a home made one should always be considered for board protection. Mini-camera can be wired or use wireless technology depending on the planned use and also on the circumstances. Wireless may be preferred if mobility is a required feature, while having to replace batteries is not considered an issue. A Wired Mini-camera may be more robust as installation, but obviously it is suitable only for fixed locations. If the Mini-camera is considered for use as a covert camera, then it would be appropriate to have a look first at what we have to say on the use of a Hidden Camera. For outdoor or indoor use, consider one of the following wired Mini-cameras:
