On the contrary if in full view they may be a deterrent to criminal actions. But accidents may happen also without criminals. A Lone-worker who slipped on the floor or tripped on some obstruction, or fell down the stairs and was seized by sudden loss of consciousness could be rescued in the shortest time if a central emergency unit is alerted immediately. To make this possible monitored surveillance cameras are invaluable. Furthermore suitable means to call for help should be available at many locations and operating at all times. A recent type of alarm (called "man down alarm") worn by the Lone-worker is designed to transmit a call for help in case its mechanism does not feel any movement for a certain time. The efficiency of these devices depends on the devotion and motivation of the personnel assigned to the assistance team as well as on the communication means installed by management.
