Direct link? Without a PC? For the surveillance of your remote location you do not need anymore a dedicated personal computer always up and connected. IP-camera (Internet Protocol) also called network camera is essentially a stand alone camera that includes all necessary equipment and software.
It is enabled for direct connection to the Internet without resorting to the intermediate service of a dedicated PC (Personal Computer). One should add that the similar term Webcam, initially simply intended as a camera connected to the web (The World Wide Web or www.) is now used to mean also different things having nothing to do with Home Surveillance. One is the increasing use of cameras installed in public places all over the world, like on top of famous mountain or volcanoes, renowned squares or defined pedestrian crossings in main cities. These are transmitting over the Internet, a continuous stream of images, taken at short time intervals, that give an idea of the current views from the selected place. The other use is more of a private entertainment, of people wishing to meet and view each other at so called chat rooms. But both those activities are not connected with Home Surveillance and will not be dealt with hereafter. However it is both possible and easy to use Webcams for Surveillance, if the emplacement is selected carefully and if the Internet connection is stable and continuous. The special features included in IP-cameras are embedded Operating System on an electronic chip that permits, with proper software, connection anywhere on a network without the need for a dedicated PC. We should recognize that due to the options and to the difficulties which may be encountered by lay people when installing highly technical equipment and software, one should be prepared to seek the help of somebody willing and able to assist in the setup of the IP-camera. The connection of an IP-camera is performed using a PC, but once completed, the IP-camera will stay connected on its own, and the transmitted images will be available anywhere on the Internet. This feature permits to do without a dedicated PC always up and connected at the place under surveillance. The system performance can be enhanced to include, besides IP-cameras, motion detectors and a number of cameras, providing larger coverage of the space, and e-mail alerts if required. The IP-cameras can compress the video images and present them in the selected format for further recording and reviewing. Select your product from IP Cameras.
