Home-security planning.

You can do it better than anyone else.

Home > Home Security

Plan your own Home-security

"Me?! How can I do such a thing?!"

Well, yes, you can. Do not be so scared. We can do that together, would you believe? We know it may seem overwhelming, but it really is not.

Even if you do not feel as yet fully committed to the task of setting up your Home-security, you have nothing to lose to get acquainted with a few concepts. You are always in complete control. So read on.

Let us face it. We live in a dangerous world. We can bury our head in sand. We can hope for the better. We can purchase a comprehensive and expensive Home-security insurance.

Or we can at least think of it, see the alternatives, and then decide what level of Home-security are we willing to implement.

Are you evaluating the risks involved and the needs for your home protection?

Is a surveillance Home-security system what you would like to explore?
If you are worried about your own Home-security, you came to the right place, you can probably make good use of this Guide.

See: Home Security Cameras

We know that anybody could get lost, as we were when we just started, by browsing through the commercial websites offering hardware for Home-security and surveillance purposes.

Our conclusion was that endless catalogues of gadgets do not help, they engender more confusion than understanding. Do you agree?

We want to be fair with you by providing the most helpful advice. Therefore we will mention another option you may be willing to explore. You can get an evaluation of the risks connected with your Home-security, performed at no cost for you by external service providers.

In the process, while surveying your premises, they will take a hard look at the weak spots of the access ways, and will alert you on what they think should be made in order to eliminate them.

Of course they hope you will then sign for the security monitoring program they will offer you. You will have to evaluate pros and cons, especially the security level you get in exchange for your money.

You will then decide if to procede on your own, with selection, purchase and installation of your equipment, or to accept the recurring expense of the service cost. We are going to expand on external services available (from ADT security, GE Security, Chubb and others) in a new page you can find at
ADT and other Security Providers.

This Guide is meant to help you in finding your way. But first...

What is Home-security about?

It deals with the state or feeling of being safe and protected. It concerns freedom from worries of loss. It is about means providing a sense of protection and of personal safety, for the life and well being of loved ones, and for assets and property.

What is the level of Home-security you should strive for? Well, this is a question nobody can answer for you. Nonetheless, to be frank, one should acknowledge from the start that absolute protection, complete and continuous, against all kind of risks, is generally out of reach.

The best one can hope for Home-security, is to reduce risks to some manageable level of confidence that gives a good feeling and peace of mind. That can be reached after having studied the available options and having selected those measures that make most sense in the particular circumstances.

People's perception of security is not always directly related to the actual security available. This is one more reason to study the subject in depth.

Please consider the following items:

X10 Home Security Systems

Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) is a surveillance system where pictures are viewed or recorded, but not broadcast. It was initially developed for banks (sure enough, they have money to look after...). It was extended later to many places with large crowds of people. Now it has been developed to become so simple and inexpensive that it is being used in Home-security systems and for everyday surveillance.

Alarm systems do also contribute to Home-security. They are built to sound an alarm whenever a monitor intercepts a condition interpreted as a breach of security, or just to start recording the scene appearing in the camera field of view when something happens there.

You certainly have in place adequate passive means of intrusion denial, like good doors and windows with sturdy locks. But a revision by a trusted professional may be invaluable.

Building and having an operating good Home Security system in place, based on Video Surveillance, will relieve your anxiety with the notion that you took positive action, to deter and confront would be wrongdoers.

Why having built and operating a well conceived video surveillance system will give you confidence and peace of mind? Because the capability of following what happens in or around your home, even when you are not there, lets you be always in control, contributes to calm your worries and increases your security.

It may even be a good point for obtaining a rebate on the premium from the Insurance Company.

The images can be either continuously observed in real time, or recorded and transmitted wherever fit. Somebody sitting in front of a monitor, or you yourself at work in a distant place may scan the scene appearing in a corner of your screen while you are doing your usual things.

A good camera system may have the important value of deterrence, because burglars in general would rather dedicate their efforts to less defended places.

In most installations nobody is charged with monitoring the views in real time, but the cameras are there in full display for deterrence, and the images are recorded either continuously or every few second.

The records can be played back at any suitable time to find proofs of events and to unmask unreliable people. A solution following this plan may work also for you.

So what are we going to suggest? Although in the end we are going to propose that you consider a few specific solutions meant to give a considered answer to defined circumstances like those relevant to your situation, we feel that a comprehensive background is necessary for taking informed decisions.

Unless you prefer to take the plunge without researching the options, there is no way other than spending some time in absorbing from this site some fundamental concepts and general information. Only then, in our opinion, you will feel confident to decide.

In the related pages that you will find further on, down this page, by clicking on the underlined items, you are going to see how we elaborate on these subjects.

We recommend that you click on Fundamental Concepts for basic information on useful terms.

Even if it may seem dry and boresome stuff we would recommend that you dedicate at least a cursory look -- you can always come back later -- just to make sure you do not skip subjects important to you.
