Child-protection

for a safe, secure and happy life

Home > Personal Security > Child Protection

Child-protection is undoubtedly the first worry of caring parents. With increasing numbers of organized activities for children at school and during after school hours it is not always easy to judge if the safety of children is assured and in good hands when parents are not present.

In many countries stern laws and tightened regulations are in place governing the screening process, and giving guidance to clarify responsibilities for safer recruitment of candidates to positions involving work, training or play with children.

It is affirmed and proclaimed in United Nations Laws that every child has the right to be protected from harm and to feel safe and secure in any educational and general environment.

Nevertheless there are from everywhere reported cases of child abuse. Families, schools and children clubs should be alert and have firm policy in place to provide maximum protection to all children, especially to those who might be at higher risk.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) uses the term "Child-protection" to refer to preventing and responding to violence, exploitation and abuse against children.

UNICEF’s Child-protection programs also target children who are uniquely vulnerable to these abuses, such as when living without parental care, in conflict with the law and in armed conflict.

Violations of the child’s right to protection take place in every country. There are massive, under-recognized and under-reported barriers to child survival and development, in addition to being human rights violations.

Children subjected to violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect are at risk of death, poor physical and mental health, HIV/AIDS infection, educational problems, displacement, homelessness, vagrancy and poor parenting skills later in life.

UNICEF promotes diffusion of information to parliamentarians of all countries, asking them to struggle to implement legislation that will spur compliance with the rights of children.

Such a Handbook (170 pages) is the publication titled
Child-protection, downloadable from

The publication of sad statistics that report the very large numbers of children subject to abuses of any kind is a reminder of the amount of work that needs to be done to redress at least partially the intolerable situation.

Even civilized countries have lots of regrettable instances of child abuse. They should engage much more in dedicated efforts of Child-protection to eradicate such cases, notwithstanding the generous activities of official agencies and private enterprises.

Voluntary Organizations advertise and implement Child-protection educational programs for schools and educational foundations directed to provide skills and information on Personal Safety to children and to parents.

Their programs address also activities designed to provide to potential young offenders social skills and self esteem believed to decrease the likelihood that those children will engage in abusive behavior toward others.

By checking the information available online when typing Child-protection in the box of any search engine one can get an idea of the importance of this argument in the present world.

Parents worrying for the safety and well being of their children are urged to provide badly needed Child-protection help in improving security to other children lacking sufficient safety by finding the local initiatives where their efforts can be directed and appreciated.
