For large establishments with a great number of animals on a vast area, the needs are multiplied, if adequate surveillance has to be assured. For night surveillance, either adequate light or infrared illumination has to be assured everywhere, if not interfering with animal habits, or cameras equipped for night vision must be used. A large monitoring room has to be established, for controlling the views from several cameras. If operators are assigned to the constant monitoring of the living stock, swinging cameras with ptz (pan-tele-zoom) capability are needed to cover a larger area. The most important thing though is to have an adequate team ready for intervention as necessary when alerted by the monitored screens. The recording capability is probably of secondary importance, only as a backup to investigate later the dynamics of whatever happened. Whoever has responsibility for a stock-farm of any size would do well to consider Animal-camera-surveillance as an essential information tool for performing adequately the job with full knowledge of the situation at any time.
